Who we are:

  • A voluntary organization working for social and economic development in the rural areas of Kancheepuram and Thiruvannamalai Districts in Tamil Nadu, India.
  • The team is focused on working mainly with the grassroots need gap - women and families from the deprived sections of the society such as the lower castes, who are especially vulnerable to poverty, social injustice, illiteracy and poor health.
 

History:

  • The Association of Sustainable Community Development (ASSCOD), formed in 1994, was originally focused on health issues of the poor people.
  • Since 2003, ASSCOD has encouraged the concept of self-help groups; organizing women into small groups, encouraging micro savings and credit imparting skills and awareness training to the beneficiaries.
 

Mission:

To encourage the concept of self-help groups; organize women into small groups, encourage micro savings and to credit imparting skills and awareness training to the beneficiaries.
 

What we do:

  • ASSCOD has conducted 26 health camps and eye screening camps to benefit all roots of the community.
  • ASSCOD has enabled about 1686 women to receive micro credit at lower transaction costs, thereby enabling them to involve in business development activities.
  • It promotes gender equality and women empowerment.
  • It strives for the reduction of infant mortality.
  • Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other diseases.
